Birth announcements are an exciting way to share the good news of your bundle(s) of joy with friends and family. But, in some cases, it can be a stressful situation, as you want the perfect way to announce your perfect child.
With the Internet becoming a part of our lifestyles, the number of options for having birth announcements done professionally is limitless! There are online birth announcements, which can save a ton of money on postage. You can order birth announcements with an infinite number of combinations of ribbon, vellum, fabrics, patterns, buttons, embossing, stamps and stickers. How about magazine covers or baseball cards with your baby's photo? You can also get chocolate candy bars or cigars with your baby's information. If you can imagine it, it can be done!
While you are still pregnant and uncomfortable, you may have some time to research all the alternatives. Shop around to find who does it best, if they offer exactly what you are looking for, and how much it will cost. Some birth announcements may cost $2.50 or more apiece. If you multiply that by the 100 or 200 people you will be sending to, along with the cost of postage, you might be heading to the bank to secure a loan! Other sites make adorable birth announcements for under a dollar apiece. Remember, this is a special event, so don't let cost be the deciding factor; but with the cost of diapers and formula and the insurance bills, your family may be on a tight budget, and shopping around can save you significant money. Also, many websites offer envelope addressing. This can be a great timesaver.
If you are the creative type, you may choose to make your own birth announcements. An office supply, craft or stationery store may yield a great resource for the do-it-yourselfer. You may have time before your child is born to get started on planning a design and securing your supplies. While your newborn is mixed up and sleeping during the day, you'll find time to get them done. Get your partner involved in the production or addressing envelopes. If you have other children, they may also enjoy the time to help! Brush up on your calligraphy, and make use of that stamping kit!
There are many creative ways to announce your newborn. If you have older siblings, let them announce the birth of their new sibling! Babies are always cute, and you can have fun dressing them up in different outfits such as: a christening gown or other ritual outfit, a special dress, sports clothing, cowboy clothing, construction gear, or their birthday suit (tastefully done, of course)! Use your imagination!
Since many of the people who will be receiving this announcement have not seen your new child, you should include a photo of the child either on the announcement, or enclosed inside. Also include the birthdate and time, as well as birth weight and length. You may even choose to include on the announcement a copy of their footprints or handprints (stress on the word copy, your baby won't be agreeable to being a stamping machine).
Taking time to research the available options for birth announcements will help alleviate the stress of getting them done. Feel free to share your tips with us, we'd love to hear them!
